Tax year: FY 2026-27 · Last updated: 3 Nov 2026
Short answer
At a ₹15 lakh CTC you keep about ₹1,11,318 a month under the new regime, after PF, professional tax and ₹7,469 a month of income tax.
What the after-tax view shows
Most people search for an in hand salary calculator after tax because the number on the offer letter is not the number in the bank. This page opens on the after-tax view, which lists every deduction between your gross salary and your final take-home:
- Employee PF. Normally 12% of basic, or 12% of ₹15,000 a month when your employer caps the wage.
- Professional tax. A small state tax, usually up to ₹2,500 a year.
- Income tax and cess. Calculated on taxable income after the standard deduction and, in the old regime, any deductions you enter.
How income tax enters the calculation
Income tax is not charged on your full salary. The standard deduction is subtracted first (₹75,000 in the new regime, ₹50,000 in the old regime). The slab rates are applied to the rest, then the section 87A rebate is subtracted if your income is low enough, and finally 4% cess is added. For incomes just above ₹12 lakh in the new regime, marginal relief ensures you never pay more tax than the amount by which your income exceeds ₹12 lakh.

Checking the result against your payslip
Your payslip may differ for good reasons: your employer may deduct PF on a different wage, include insurance or meal cards in your CTC, pay variable pay quarterly, or compute tax using your declared investments. Use the Basic percentage, PF basis and gratuity settings under More options to match your structure more closely.
Frequently asked questions
What does after-tax in-hand salary mean?
It is the amount you receive after PF, professional tax and income tax have been deducted from your gross salary. It is the figure that lands in your bank account.
Is income tax deducted monthly from salary?
Yes. Your employer estimates your yearly tax and deducts it in monthly instalments as TDS. If you declare investments or change regime during the year, the monthly TDS changes.
Does the after-tax figure include the 4% cess?
Yes. Health and education cess of 4% is added on the tax after rebate, and it is included in the income tax line.
Why does the old regime sometimes give a higher tax?
Without deductions the old regime has higher slab rates. It only wins when your deductions (80C, 80D, HRA, home-loan interest, NPS) are large enough to offset them.
What is the 87A rebate?
A rebate that can reduce tax to nil for residents with taxable income up to a limit. In this calculator the limit is ₹12 lakh under the new regime (rebate up to ₹60,000) and ₹5 lakh under the old regime (rebate up to ₹12,500).
